old favourite

I've canceled my subscription at FY!lickr and will wait for the March release of Zooomr MkIII before I decide between Zooomr and 23HQ as I have near on 10gigs of photo's I want to be able to continue to share with friends and family so it's important I get the decision right (I'm leaning to Zooomr but the feature set just doesn't feel accomplished enough which is why the wait for MkIII)

In the mean time, here's a sunset over the river Itchen, looking towards the old Merdian TV studio's and the then being build Jurys Inn.

More Thoughts on Zooomr

Ok I've been playing with Zooomr for a few days now, so I thought I'd update my thoughts... It's not good :(

Some how I managed to upload multiple copies of the same image (not sure if that's an Juploadr issue, but I know when I dropped the files into Juploadr there weren't any duplicates... Now I can live with duplicates as 4gb of transfer a month is screwy anyway, what's really bothered me is deleting them! it's not the one by one issue I was commenting on in the previous post, this time if you're on page four of you photo's and have several images to delete, you have to click delete on the image you want to delete, then browse back to page four to delete the next one! for a site that is so forward thinking with it's technology and use of Ajax I'd of thought this would of been something that shouldn't need to be.

Zooomr The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

Now how do I start this post? Do I start negative and work to the positive leaving the reader (you think you get that many... Mike in a state of optimism, or do I go the other way which seems to be the route ever other blog I've bothered reading has gone.

The Ugly :-

I'm going to be blunt here, support for manipulating multiple photographs is totally shit... in fact it's pretty much non existent, you can create photo sets (smart sets in Zooomr Terminology) using a combination of options such as Tag, Owner, Date Taken etc and that's IT! So if you forget to tag a couple of hundred photo's before uploading them you have to do it one by one, the same goes for if you want to delete a photo's it's one by one again, and also if you want to set a group of photo's privacy hope to god the Juploadr has remembered which option you selected...

The Bad :-
the only way atm to upload a vast amount of photo's at the moment isJuploadr my only piece advice is if you change anything from the default settings when you run it, is to close it and start the app again else the changes don't seem to affect the photo's you upload.

Not sure if this is a Juploadr issue or Zooomr (I'm inclined to think it's Zooomr issue as the site doesn't seem stable) but uploads fail quite a bit.

The Good :-
Pro user bandwidth allowance : 4GB a MONTH!!! W00t!!!

Geo tagging : seems effective (not tried it yet, but others have commented)

Zooomrtation : Vocal commentary by you on your photo's in the form of an mp3, which is played back through the browser.

Portals :- Similar in style to Flickrs' notes, but a lot more useful (imho), it allows for very creative effects. Perhaps I should describe what it does and you can decide. As with a note a box appears on your photo that you can place anywhere, but you have the ability to assign a photo to the portal, that portal then becomes a link to the image you assign to it the example which impressed me most was here, Raoul has used it to link to close ups of detail on the Bulfinch Gate House, Very COOL!!!

Mark III : Zooomr is updating in March, no one's sure what's going to be included, but if it just adds the ability to handle multiple photo's I'll give it my trade over Flickr.

This shot was taken from my backdoor, using my cameras' 12x optical and 3 x digital zoom, that is why there is some colour bleeding in the shot and the quality is lower than usual.

I used the digital solorise effect on my mobilephones' camera and the sneezed as I pressed to take the shot, giving the shot that zoom burst effect with the saturated colours you can see.

After going on a wild goose chase for a tree in the woods that was in blossom (it was actually in someones backgarden) I noticed this feather just laying across some bramble leaves and took a photo as it was quite a stark image.

Mike was a fool and commented ;)

I had a comment left by charlesletbetter who's one of my favourite photographers on flickr, check his work out @

It also got this comment

"Io mi fotografo sempre i piedi,Bravo!"

which google translastes as

"I photographer always the feet, Bravo!"

Ah the joy of the refraction of light caused by water, gives the illusion of the head being way to small for the body.

Apparently a "cool shot" thus making it to this blog.

Purple Flowers

This set of flowers were loitering in my back garden one sunny afternoon mid july so I took a photo :)

If you think the colours are a tad weird you'd be right, I had my camera set to shoot in the cool enhancement mode which enhances any blues in the shot to give a "cool" effect ;)

Chuckie

P1030431
Originally uploaded by frontieruk.

Ok this is Chuckie, he suffers from a rare disease (longus tongus), which means that he can't keep his tongue in his mouth or he'd choke on it!!!

The disadvatages of this are he often manages to stand on it as he gets up, and loses alot of bodily fluids as he is forever slobbering on the floor (usually on the tiled floor so you slip up on your arse).

Another problem with this disease is it means he has the jump on people when he goes to lick them as if he misses the slobber flies off to find it's mark!

Please people pitty animals you see with this disease, it's life threatening and it's getting worse you often see them hanging outta car windows.
